Steven R. Fox


Steve has strong roots in the Traverse City community, where he has lived for more than 25 years.  Steve attended the Travese City Area Public Schools, and graduated from the Traverse City Senior High School in 1987.  

Steve graduated from the University of Michigan in 1991, and from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1994.  He has also attended Northwestern Michigan College.

Steve and his wife, Susan, have three children.  

.  He grew up in Traverse City, and spent many summer days on East Grand Traverse Bay.  Steve graduated from Traverse City Senior High School in 1987, and then attended classes at Nortwestern Michigan College before obtaining a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Michigan in 1991.

Steve is a member of the Real Estate section of the State Bar of Michigan.

Steve has served as a volunteer and board member to many local organizations, including the Sunrise Rotary Club, the Grand Traverse Ski Club, Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer,  Third Level Legal Clinic, the Traverse City Area Public Schools, the Grand Traverse University of Michigan Club, the Grand Traverse Leelanau Antrim Bar Association, and others.

Steve graduated from the University of Detroit School of Law in 1994, and during his time there also worked with the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission, the Wayne County Circuit Court and a prominent Detroit litigation firm.

Steve will often be found coaching sports teams and volunteering at Hickory Hills ski races, and at local schools.  Steve has served as a mentor for young underprivileged children, spent many years as a pro bono attorney for the poor, and has served on several local and state boards of directors for nonprofit organizations. 

He is a member of the American Bar Association, including real property and health law sections, the State Bar of Michigan, including sections on health care, real property and business, and the Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association. His practice emphases includes extensive real estate and business experience, including land use planning and litigation, real estate transactions and litigation, business entity formation and litigation, construction law, zoning and municipal law, water and riparian rights, condominium law, preservation and conservation easemMr. Fox has contributed to the local community as a volunteer for the Third Level legal aid clinic, the GTLA Bar Association law day, as a charter member of the Sunrise Rotary Club, as a volunteer for the Traverse City Area Public Schools and the Eastern Parent Teacher Organization. He has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Historic Preservation Network since 2003.ents, and special land use and planned unit development administrative processes and appeals. Mr. Fox also has significant experience and success in the following areas: ERISA litigation, health care law, divorce and domestic relations. Mr. Fox was prevailing counsel in a significant reported decision upholding the rights of married parents to raise their children free from interference by alleged putative fathers. Numerick v Krull, 265 Mich App 232, 694 NW 2d 552 (2005), leave denied, 474 Mich 877, 704 NW 2d 76 (2005).

As a board member of MHPN, he has assisted in the establishment and organization of the historic preservation easement program administered by MHPN, which has accepted several significant historic preservation easements across the State of Michigan, including a multi-million dollar historic preservation easement donation for the Book-Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan.
