Bishop & Heintz Again Awarded Highest Professional Rating
The preeminent attorney rating service in the United States, the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory, has again awarded Bishop & Heintz, P.C. with an "AV" rating for 2007. The "A" rating indicates that the firm is professionally ranked "from very high to preeminent" and the "V" indicates that the firm’s general ethical standards rating is "very high." Attorney Fees Awarded for Frivolous Action
Bishop & Heintz recently was successful in conjunction with obtaining a dismissal of a lawsuit brought against a client concerning condominium development, and obtaining reimbursement to the client of all of the client’s fees and costs. Doug Bishop and Matt Classens secured a decision from the court that the Plaintiff’s actions in filing the lawsuit against the client had been frivolous. Michigan court rules provided, under Rule 2.114(f), for sanctions for frivolous claims and defenses.
Business Transactions Completed
Over the past several months, Bishop & Heintz has represented commercial clients in muliti-million dollar transactions, including the purchase and sale of oil and gas interests/assets, transferring golf course facilities and other real estate transactions, as well as stock transfers. Pat Heintz represented the firm’s clients involved in these sophisticated transactions and recently represented a client in a multi-million dollar acquisition of a retail shopping center.
Land Use Rights Protected
Development rights have been obtained for numerous clients of Bishop & Heintz through its successful zoning and permitting representation in local municipalities and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Pat Heintz and Steve Fox have secured key governmental permits by zealously representing property owners against objections raised by opponents. Wetlands, streams, and other sensitive land issues have been protected while enabling the proposed use of our client’s property.
Firm Successful in Liability Case
Bishop & Heintz has recently resolved a package of accident claims arising out of an automobile accident and related injuries in favor of one its clients, with the aggregate recovery totaling more than $2.7 million dollars.
Firm Successful in Trademark Cases
The firm has been successful in Michigan and Federal Courts, recently, in obtaining injunctive relief for infringement of trademarks owned by firm clients, notably representation of GFR, Ltd., the owner of the "GRAND FUNK RAILROAD" and related trademarks. David Cvengros and Steven Fox, effective January, 2007, have become shareholders in the firm joining senior shareholders Douglas Bishop and Patrick Heintz. Mr. Cvengros is engaged in general civil practice and litigation, in particular personal injury and negligence matters. Mr. Fox is engaged in general practice, with recognized expertise in matters of zoning and planning, and municipal and township law.
